Systems Operations at NEP


As a System Engineer you are part of the Netherlands based System Operations team that consists of both Linux and Windows Engineers. Together they are responsible for maintaining and continually improve a large and complex infrastructure (mainly a recently renewed VMware platform). This supports both Managed IT services for external customers as well as specific broadcast related applications and systems. E.g. VOD platforms, streaming platforms but also applications necessary for day to day television programs.

System Operations also participates in company wide projects. Together with the project team you ensure that optimal service and reliability is being delivered through a wide variety of different project.



Your role as a System Engineer

As a System Engineer at NEP, you will be managing our Windows server environment. You’re part of the System Operations team that supplies and manages the Windows servers up to and including the operating system and any Middleware applications. NEP has its own data centers, suitable for Broadcast and IT installations, such as networking, VMware, CDN streaming platforms and centralized productions.

Being a part of the System Operations team means you will be working on one or more projects in which operations are required. You do not only represent the interests of management, but together with the project team you ensure good results for any new product. The client is king, so you’ll need to have a customer-friendly and open working attitude.


Key responsibilities

  • Deploy and maintain various server solutions (clusters, load-balancing, backup, etc.);
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve reliability or performance issues to support your colleagues;
  • Communication with various vendors, partners, internal IT and broadcast teams;
  • Support a global organization; on occasion international projects have to be supported / executed, possibly in other time zones;
  • Serve as a link between the business and customers by actively collaborating with stakeholders and senior business leaders to ensure the scope and specifications of a system are documented and adhered to;
  • Provide innovative and workable solutions to a wide range of technical challenges and business opportunities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

This is where you recognize yourself in

  • You have a Bachelors degree and are an expert in the field of complex VMware environments;
  • You have experience in setting up VMware environments, expanding them and introducing new parts from the VMware catalog;
  • Experience in managing high volume application and database systems in a high availability environment;
  • Proficiency in VMware associated programs and coding languages, such as Windows Server, MS IIS, SAN architecture;
  • Do not think in problems, but in challenges and solutions. You see communication as an important means of getting things done and you know what our customers want and what both the customer's systems and our own systems can do. As a result, you know how to handle complex incidents and changes;
  • Are collegial and can work under pressure. You know how things work in practice in an administrative department and you know how to respond to this. With your positive approach you ensure that matters are handled flawlessly.


Additional Requirements (you don’t have to check all boxes)

  • You are VCP certified or are on your way to obtaining that certification;
  • You have experience with VEEAM and Enterprise storage environments;
  • You are familiar with onboarding environments;
